The Vitamix E320 has the same powerful 2.2 horsepower motor found in the latest Vitamix models like the Vitamix 750.
The E310 has the 2.0 horsepower motor found in the classic Vitamix models like the Vitamix 5200.
Despite the slight difference in power, both blenders can handle anything you throw their way with ease.
These powerful motors combined with Vitamix’s signature hammermill blades can out-blend just about any household blender on the market.
Here’s some demonstration videos showing how the Vitamix E310 and Vitamix E320 can handle the exact same blends, regardless of the 0.2 HP difference in their motors.

The main difference between the Vitamix E310 and E320 is the container size.
The E310 has a 48-oz container while the E320 has the larger 64-oz container.
The extra capacity of the Vitamix E320 is a bonus when blending juices or soups that require a lot of fresh vegetables, but the 48-oz jar of the E310 is enough for most standard uses.
The smaller jar of the Vitamix E310 is actually slightly better for small “personal” sized blends (anything where starting the ingredients are under about 1 cup).
The narrow shape of the E310 pitcher produces a stronger vortex which helps pull ingredients towards the blades to get the blend started when the pitcher is less full.
The only time this difference comes into play is when blending a single serving of salad dressing or some sauces.
The difference is negligible with most standard blends. Even a single serving smoothie has enough bulky ingredients to get the blend started in both container sizes.
How Tall Is The Vitamix E320?
The Vitamix E310 and Vitamix E320 are both 18 inches tall even though the E320 has the larger container capacity.
That means the Vitamix E320 is short enough to be stored on the counter and fits under a standard kitchen cabinet.
The control panels and settings of the Vitamix E310 and E320 are identical.
Each blender comes with 10 variable speeds and pulse control.
These settings can create any texture from liquefied veggies for a fresh juice to chunky tomatoes for a salsa.
With so much power and control at your fingertips the blending possibilities really are endless.
Does the Vitamix E310 make hot soup?
The Vitamix E310 and E320 can both make steaming hot soups starting from whole vegetables.
Start by blending the ingredients until they have been pureed. Then turn the blender up to its highest setting. The friction from the blades will steam the soup in a matter of minutes.
But hot soup isn’t the only trick that has made Vitamix blenders a staple in both commercial and home kitchens.
These blenders can make silky smoothies, homemade nut butters, flours/dough, even frozen desserts.
Here’s how you can turn any fruit into a delicious and creamy ice cream using just a Vitamix blender:
Whether this price jump is worth it really comes down to how you plan on using the blender.
For personal use, the 48-oz container on the E310 will be more than enough. For families, the larger capacity E320 might be preferable.
A Vitamix blender is a top of the line machine and is priced accordingly, but there are some ways to save some serious money on your purchase!
How to Save money on a vitamix
Luckily, the Vitamix E320 is available as a certified reconditioned blender. This will save you over $150 off the original price!
Certified reconditioned blenders consist of lightly used returns or display models that are then refurbished directly by Vitamix.
All worn or visually marked parts, as well as the lids, containers, and tampers are all replaced with brand new parts. The motors and blades are repaired or replaced.
Each refurbished blender has to pass the exact same inspection process that a brand new Vitamix blender goes through.
This means that as far as quality goes, a Vitamix reconditioned blender can be considered as good as new (only much cheaper)!
Each blender is then repackaged in the same packaging that a brand new blender comes in along with the recipe book.
Reconditioned blenders also come with a 5-year warranty, so if it’s defective in any way you can send it in for a replacement free of charge.
The only difference between new and reconditioned is the price tag!
I highly recommend a reconditioned blender if you want to save money. In fact, my first ever Vitamix purchase was a reconditioned 5300!
The Vitamix E320 reconditioned is currently on sale making it even cheaper than a Vitamix E310!
The Vitamix E320 Reconditioned is the winner here, and is currently the most affordable Vitamix blender available. If purchasing a brand new blender, the Vitamix E310 is the better deal and will save you $100 over a brand new E320.
