A super easy vegan tartar sauce that’s ready in just 5 minutes! Tangy, creamy, and delicious.
When I was making this delicious vegan fish and chips recipe I decided I’d need some good tartar sauce to go along with it.
Creamy, tangy tartar sauce was literally made for the crispy, savory beer batter on the “fish”.
If you’re like me and are halfway through a “fish” and chips recipe when you realize you want some tartar sauce to go with it then don’t worry!
This vegan tartar sauce is ready in less than 5 minutes, and you probably already have the ingredients in your fridge!
Tartar sauce is a mayonnaise based sauce.
You can start with some store-bought vegan mayo, but I like to use this creamy homemade cashew mayonnaise!
I use this egg-free cashew mayo for literally everything so I always have some on hand.
When I say I use it for everything, I mean everything. I use it in this avocado lime crema to put on my jackfruit carnitas tacos, my vegan ranch dressing, even a chipotle aioli!
Once you have your mayonnaise base, this vegan tartar sauce is super easy to make! Simply stir the ingredients together.
How To Make
Vegan Tartar Sauce
Finely chop dill pickles until you have 2 tbsp. Wash and dry fresh dill and remove from stems. Finely chop dill until you have 1 tsp.
Substitutions: Try these easy replacements if you don’t have some of the ingredients lying around!
- 2 tbsp Relish for 2 tbsp chopped pickles (and omit the 1 tsp of pickle juice)
- 1/2 tsp dried dill for 1 tsp fresh dill
In a medium bowl, add vegan mayo, chopped pickles, pickle juice, dijon mustard, lemon juice, and dill.
Stir until well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
You can adjust the ratio of liquid ingredients like lemon juice and pickle juice to get the right consistency for your tastes!
Some people prefer a thick and chunky tartar sauce while others like it more saucy.
