Vitamix comparison

When comparing Vitamix models I considered 4 main ranking factors.

Price:

Vitamix blenders are top of the line in quality, performance, and durability and are priced accordingly. Some are more competitively priced than others though, especially when buying reconditioned.

Usability:

Usability looks at how easy and intuitive the blender is to use. It covers everything from storage and cleaning to the feel of the controls.

Features:

All of the blenders on the list have an adjustable 10 speed dial that allows you to fine tune any consistency and texture, but some of the blenders come with additional features. You’ll pay extra for features like present functions, a pulse switch, programmable settings, and timers. This guide will help you decide which ones are worth it for you.

Performance:

All Vitamix blenders are high performance machines and score well in this category. Blenders with the next generation motors and suspended motor housing run 40% quieter than their older counterparts so these blenders were given a slightly higher performance score.

Vitamix 5200 Review

The Vitamix 5200 is a true classic. It is the model that really established Vitamix blenders as the best in the world. With its powerful 2 HP motor and Vitamix’s world renowned hammermill steel blades, its blending performance still holds its own with the latest Vitamix blenders – but for a fraction of the cost.

compare vitamix models 5200

Pros:

  • Great performance for the price
  • Available as certified reconditioned
  • Perfect for beginners

Cons:

  • Tall container is cumbersome to store + clean
  • No extra features
  • Slightly weaker motor compared to other models

Usability:

The biggest drawback of the Vitamix 5200 is the height of its pitcher. With the pitcher attached to the base the total height of the Vitamix 5200 is 20.5″. The standard kitchen cabinet is 20″ over the countertop meaning the pitcher and the base will need to be separated if you want to store it on the countertop.

The long and skinny pitcher of the 5200 also makes it slightly more difficult to scrub while cleaning compared to the low-profile pitcher found on the other Vitamix models.

7
Usability

The Vitamix 5200’s tall and skinny 64-oz container makes storage and cleaning more cumbersome compared to the low-profile 64-oz container that comes with the other Vitamix models on this list.

Features:

The Vitamix 5200 is barebones when it comes to extra features. It has a 10 speed adjustable dial that will let you fine tune the consistency and texture of your blend. That is really all you need to make everything from smoothies to nut butters to hot soups, but the preset functions on some of the newer models like the 750 and A3500 will make the process easier and more consistent.

6
Features

The Vitamix 5200 has the basic functionality to make anything you’ve ever dreamed of with your Vitamix – but that’s it. Whether or not you want to pay for more features than that depends on your specific needs.

Performance:

The Vitamix 5200 is a high performance, commercial quality blender that can make anything the newer Vitamix models are capable of. It has a slightly weaker 2 HP motor compared to the 2.2 HP motors of other Vitamix models but this difference is almost negligible. You might notice slightly longer blend times for the more difficult tasks like making hot soups or nut butters.

9
Performance

The Vitamix 5200 offers exceptional blending performance for its price. You might notice slightly longer blend times compared to newer models but overall the performance is outstanding.

Price:

The Vitamix 5200 comes in a variety of price points from $330-$530. Why such a huge price range? The Vitamix 5200 is one of 3 blenders on this list (along with the 5300 and 7500) that are available as certified reconditioned blenders.

One of the most common questions I get asked is if reconditioned Vitamix blenders are any good? The answer is yes absolutely. In fact they can be considered as good as new! You can find more details on the process of reconditioning that Vitamix uses here

Actually, reconditioned is the only way I would recommend buying the Vitamix 5200, 5300, and 7500. If you’re buying them brand new their price is so close to an upgraded and newer model like the 750 that you’re better off just getting the new model.

8
Price

Although the Vitamix 5200 reconditioned has the lowest price of any blender on the list, the upgraded 5300 is only $30 more and comes with a 2.2 HP motor and low-profile container.

Vitamix Model Comparison:

Vitamix 5300 Review

The Vitamix 5300 takes the exceptional performance of the 5200 and improves on it in virtually every way while maintaining a similar low price. It keeps the 10 adjustable speeds of the Vitamix 5200 and adds a slightly stronger 2.2 HP motor, an easier to use low-profile container, and a pulse switch. The Vitamix 5300 reconditioned is the best bang for your buck.

Vitamix 5300 reviews

Pros:

  • Best value of all Vitamix blenders
  • Available as certified reconditioned
  • Pulse switch

Cons:

  • Noisy
  • Not a lot of extra features

Usability:

The Vitamix 5300 comes with a low-profile container which makes storage and cleaning much easier compared to the 5200 model. When the pitcher is attached to the base the total height comes in at 17.25″ which leaves plenty of space to be stored under a standard kitchen cabinet. Its simple 3 control interface is intuitive and easy to use.

8
Usability

The Vitamix 5300 scores high for usability thanks to its intuitive and easy to use controls, and its low-profile container that makes storage and cleaning a breeze.

Features:

The Vitamix 5300 isn’t as feature rich as models like the 750 or A3500 but it does have more to offer than the 5200. The main addition is the pulse switch which makes blending chunkier textures for salsas or rough chopping veggies much easier than with the Vitamix 5200. The Vitamix 5300 also has a slightly stronger motor at 2.2 HP.

8
Features

The Vitamix 5300 has everything you need to get the perfect blend without adding a bunch of extra features that drive up its price.

Performance:

Like any Vitamix, the blending performance with the 5300 is exceptional. The Vitamix 5300’s 2.2 HP motor makes blend times slightly faster compared to the 5200 which sports a 2 HP motor, but this difference is minimal. It is important to note that the Vitamix 5300’s motor is not the next generation motor with suspended motor housing meaning the Vitamix 5300 runs about 40% louder compared to the newer models like the 7500, 750, or A3500.

9.5
Performance

The Vitamix 5300 offers outstanding blending performance for its price. Its motor is the exact same power as the newer models that are hundreds of dollars more expensive. The only downside is that the Vitamix 5300 motor runs louder than these newer models.

Price:

The Vitamix 5300 is one of 3 blenders on this list (along with the 5200 and 7500) that are available as certified reconditioned blenders. If it’s available, buying your Vitamix as a certified reconditioned model is absolutely worth it. When buying reconditioned you’re able to get a Vitamix that is as good as new for over 30% off. This is what makes the Vitamix 5300 the best value on this list.

You can find more details on the process of reconditioning that Vitamix uses here, but basically Vitamix takes lightly used or display blenders and restores the motor. Then every other piece including the pitcher and tamper is replaced with brand new pieces and packaged along with the normal recipe books and DVD that comes with that specific model.

Actually, reconditioned is the only way I would recommend buying the Vitamix 5200, 5300, and 7500. If you’re buying them brand new their price is so close to an upgraded and newer model like the 750 that you’re better off just getting the new model.

8.5
Price

The Vitamix 5300 is the best deal on this list when buying reconditioned. It is only $30 more than the reconditioned 5200 but comes with an upgraded motor and an additional pulse function that makes chunkier textures easy.

Vitamix 7500 Review

The Vitamix 7500 is the next generation model of the Vitamix 5300. It takes the same exceptional performance that made the Vitamix 5300 famous, and outfits it with a next generation motor that runs 40% quieter. The Vitamix 7500’s control interface was also slightly modified giving it a more sleek and modern feel.

Vitamix 7500 review

Pros:

  • Great performance for the price
  • Available as certified reconditioned
  • Next generation 2.2 HP motor runs 40% quieter

Cons:

  • Virtually identical to the 5300 but slightly more expensive
  • Not a lot of extra features

Usability:

The usability here is identical to the Vitamix 5300. It has the same low-profile container which makes storage and cleaning much easier compared to the 5200 model. When the pitcher is attached to the base the total height comes in at 17.5″ which leaves plenty of space to be stored under a standard kitchen cabinet. The Vitamix 7500 also comes with a simple 3 control interface that is intuitive and easy to use.

8
Usability

The Vitamix 7500 is identical to the Vitamix 5300 in terms of usability. Cleaning and storage is made easy thanks to the low-profile 64-oz container. The simple 3 button interface makes using the Vitamix 7500 an easy and intuitive experience.

Features:

The Vitamix 7500 strikes a similar balance of features and price like the Vitamix 5300. It lacks the preset blend functions that come with newer models like the 750 and A3500 but it comes with an adjustable 10 speed dial and pulse switch that are more than enough to create any texture or consistency you can dream of.

8
Features

The Vitamix 7500 comes with everything you need for the perfect blend. You can make everything from hot soups to thick creamy nut butters to silky green smoothies. It lacks some of the additional features you’ll find on the 750 or A3500 but while these features are nice, they definitely aren’t necessary.

Performance:

Performance is where the Vitamix 7500 really shines. It has the same 2.2 HP motor as the Vitamix 5300 but its suspended motor housing helps the 7500 run approximately 40% quieter than the 5300. While I wouldn’t consider any Vitamix to be a quiet blender, the 40% reduction in noise definitely helps. This powerful motor combined with the standard Vitamix hammermill steel blades will blend anything you throw its way.

10
Performance

The Vitamix 7500 receives a perfect score for its performance. It has the same blending capabilities as the powerful Vitamix 5300 but can do it 40% quieter.

Price:

The Vitamix 7500 costs $40 more than the 5300 while the only significant difference between the two is the suspended motor housing that lets the 7500 run 40% quieter. If noise is a big concern for you then spending a little extra for the 7500 is probably worth it, but it’s important to note that the 7500 still isn’t a quiet blender by any means.

The Vitamix 7500 is also one of 3 blenders on this list (along with the 5200 and 5300) that are available as certified reconditioned blenders. Buying a reconditioned Vitamix will get you over 30% off the original price and these blenders can be considered as good as new. You can find more info on how Vitamix does there reconditioning here.

Actually, reconditioned is the only way I would recommend buying the Vitamix 5200, 5300, and 7500. If you’re buying them brand new their price is so close to an upgraded and newer model like the 750 that you’re better off just getting the new model.

8
Price

The Vitamix 7500 costs $40 more than the 5300 while the only difference is a quieter motor. Whether or not this is worth it for you depends on how much of a factor noise will be in your household. Either way the Vitamix 7500 offers amazing performance at an affordable price if you’re buying it reconditioned.

Vitamix Model Comparison:

Vitamix 750 Review

The Vitamix 750 is part of the professional series blenders by Vitamix. It combines the classic interface and outstanding performance found in the Vitamix 5200-7500 models with some of the cutting edge features found in the latest smart blenders. It’s the perfect blender for anyone who loves the classic Vitamix look and feel but is looking to upgrade to something more modern.

Vitamix 750 review

Pros:

  • Top of the line performance
  • Next generation 2.2 HP motor runs 40% quieter
  • 5 preset functions allow for walk-away convenience and consistent blends

Cons:

  • One of the more expensive Vitamix models
  • Not as many features as Vitamix's latest smart blenders but has a similar price tag

Usability:

The Vitamix 750 Professional blender gets a perfect score for usability. It has the same low-profile 64-oz pitcher as the Vitamix 5300 and 7500 that I love. With the pitcher attached to the base its total height comes in at 17.4″ allowing it to easily be stored on your kitchen counter without hitting the cabinets. Its 3 button interface is almost identical to the 5300 and 7500 models which makes it very familiar and easy to use. It also comes with a cleaning preset function. Simply add hot water and some dish soap, select the cleaning setting, and come back in 60 seconds to a clean blender. It’s that easy!

10
Usability

The Vitamix 750’s familiar and intuitive controls makes it extremely easy to use. The low-profile container and self-cleaning preset function mean cleanup and storage couldn’t get any easier.

Features:

The Vitamix 750 offers all of the functionality of the classic blenders like the 5300 or 7500 with the addition of 5 preset functions. These preset functions include a setting for smoothies, frozen treats, soups, purees, and cleaning. They take the blender through a variety of speeds to create the perfect consistency every time. Presets are great if you want a consistent texture every time you blend or if you want to be able to walk away without having to worry about over or under blending.

8.5
Features

The preset blending programs are a great additional feature for walk-away convenience or for getting a consistent blend every time, but they are by no means a necessity. Besides the addition of these preset functions, the Vitamix 750 and 7500 are virtually identical.

Performance:

The Vitamix 750 scores a perfect 10/10 for its blending performance. It has the same next generation 2.2 HP motor with suspended housing that is in all of the latest Vitamix models including the Vitamix 7500. This means it has the same blending capabilties and performance as the Vitamix 5300 while operating 40% quieter. While I wouldn’t consider any Vitamix to be a quiet blender, the 40% difference is definitely noticable.

10
Performance

The Vitamix 750 receives a perfect score for its performance. It has the same blending capabilities as the powerful Vitamix 5300 but can do it 40% quieter. It can handle everything from nut butters to hot soups.

Price:

The Vitamix 750 is only $30 more than a new Vitamix 7500 and the preset functions are definitely worth the slightly higher price. However, if you compare the 750 to a certified reconditioned 7500 then the price increase is much larger. In this scenario you’d be paying an extra $150 for the 5 preset functions which in my opinion isn’t worth it but ultimately it will come down to your blending preferences and what you’re looking for. Overall, the Vitamix 750 is one of the more expensive options available from Vitamix since it is still fairly new and there are no certified reconditioned models available yet.

7
Price

The Vitamix 750 is expensive but is easily one of the best blenders on the market. If you really like the preset functions then it is a great option, otherwise you’re better off getting something like the reconditioned 5300 which has the same blending capabilities and performance for around $200 less.

Vitamix A3500 Review

The Vitamix A3500 is the latest addition to Vitamix’s smart blender series. It has the same great performance and functionality as the classic models with its 2.2 HP motor and 10 speed dial, all housed in a sleek touch screen interface. It offers the latest Vitamix technology with 5 preset functions, a programmable timer, and wireless connectivity.

Pros:

  • Top of the line performance
  • Next generation 2.2 HP motor runs 40% quieter
  • 5 preset functions allow for walk-away convenience and consistent blends
  • Programmable timer for custom recipes
  • Wireless connectivity pairs with Vitamix Perfect Blend app for over 500 recipes and 17+ blending programs

Cons:

  • One of the most expensive Vitamix models
  • Touchscreen controls might be difficult to use if you're not familiar with touchscreens

Usability:

The Vitamix A3500 scores very high for usability. It has a low-profile 64-oz pitcher that makes cleaning and storage easy. This is the only dishwasher safe Vitamix container on the list since it doesn’t have the rubber lid.  Still, the easiest way to clean it is with the cleaning preset function. Simply add hot water and some dish soap, select the cleaning setting, and come back in 60 seconds to a clean blender. The touchscreen controls are more a matter of your personal preference, some people find them more difficult to use. With so many controls on the interface the A3500 is less intuitive to use than some of the classic style Vitamix models.

9
Usability

Storage and cleaning is made easier and more versatile than ever with the low-profile, dishwasher safe container and the self cleaning preset. Lots of functionality and buttons makes the A3500 slightly less intuitive to use than some of the classic models.

Performance

The Vitamix A3500 really impresses with its performance. It has the same blending capabilities as the powerful Vitamix 5300 but can do it 40% quieter thanks to the suspended motor housing. A lot of smart blenders on the market sacrifice performance for flashy new features, but the A3500 gives you the best of both worlds.

Price:

If you’re just looking for a high performance blender then you’re better off with a reconditioned 5300 which will give you the same blending capabilities for almost $300 less.

If you love the convenience and consistency that the preset functions give you but don’t want to pay extra for touchscreens, apps, and timers, then you might consider the Vitamix 750 instead. You won’t get the latest features but you can get the same outstanding performance and the 5 preset functions all for around $70-$100 less than the A3500.

If you want the latest technology and a true top of the line blending experience, then the A3500 is the blender for you. You simply can’t find another blender with this kind of performance and features on the market.
